SINGERS

Tenor

John Braden's pure tenor voice and musical skill have anchored the ACS tenor section since 1992. A singer since high school, John claims choir was a good diversion from physics. When he is not singing he selflessly volunteers his many talents including woodworking and gourmet cooking. His fellow singers particularly appreciate his key lime tarts. John works as an engineer for Conoco Phillips.

Deb Geeseman has been singing since her unsolicited solo debut in a department store at age 4. She sang in choirs throughout her school years, a women's quartet during college, numerous Messiahs, and just for fun. She is a member of the Anchorage Opera chorus and has sung with the Anchorage Concert Chorus. Deb is a psychiatrist, providing psychotherapy for growth and healing. She is also a world traveler and loves photography and wilderness activities.

David Ianson is a research scientist and university lecturer with 40 years of choral singing under his belt. He began singing in grade school and continued through a Ph.D. and beyond (in five university chorales, numerous madrigal, and opera ensembles). He was a professional Christmas Caroler and Madrigal performer, sung with the Portland Opera Chorus, and the Russian American Colony Singers. He studied voice with Dr. Joy McIntyre and his day job is in horticulture and the plant/microbe interactions of native circumpolar plants.

Mark Iverson is a charter member of the Alaska Chamber Singers. His 38 years of choral singing began in his mother's church choir and includes the USAF Academy Cadet Chorale which he joined so he could stand at ease for a few hours each week. He also performed with the Anchorage Opera, the Basically Bach Festival, Anchorage Summer Music Festivals, and the 25th Statehood Anniversary Russian Choir.

Jim Powell has been singing in Alaska since 1964, singing for one year in Fairbanks with Charlie Davis, then coming to Anchorage. Before that he sang at Kings Point (USMM Academy) in the Glee Club and at U of Michigan with Maynard Klein's Cantata Singers. In 1970 he worked with Elvera Voth in revitalizing the Anchorage Opera, and in 1985 in forming the Alaska Chamber Singers. After 40 years of practicing law, he retired in 2005 and now spends his time singing and flying.

Daniel Salas-Peterson grew up in Anchorage and began his musical studies as a violinist at the age of five. He discovered vocal talent while attending the Polaris K-12 Alternative School. He went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in classical vocal performance and opera from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. During his time there he performed numerous lead roles in operas such as Mozart's Così Fan Tutte, Die Zauberflöte and Le Nozze di Figaro. He is currently honing his skills for an operatic career through constant practice and study.

Bardon Simons grew up in Seattle where he received his early musical training-playing violin in school orchestras. Seeking new outlets for musical expression while at Whitman College, he joined the college madrigal and concert choirs and performed as a chorus member in college opera productions. Since moving to Anchorage in 1985, he has sung with the Anchorage Concert Chorus, Anchorage Festival of Music, Anchorage Opera, and National Symphony Orchestra during its 1992 Alaska tour. Bardon enjoys gardening and reading history and biographies when taking a break from his job as business manager for a commercial real estate development firm.
